about Aurifil thread & why I love it:

Aurifil’s ply thread is a super versatile cotton thread. It is available in all 270 colors.

The 80wt thread is strong, fine, and PERFECT for a variety of techniques.
This is my go-to weight for needle-turn applique and English Paper Piecing. The thread just melts into your fabric, allowing for close to invisible stitches.

The 50wt thread is strong and thin, and results in remarkably flat and crisp seams.
Suggested Uses: While it is wonderful for piecing, subtle quilting & topstitching, and English Paper Piecing it also works incredibly well for Needle Turn Applique, Bobbin and Machine Lace, Machine Applique (Straight Stitch, ZigZag, Blind Hem and Blanket Stitch,) Machine Embroidery, Dense Machine Quilting, Subtle Machine and Longarm Quilting, Basting, Whole Cloth and Micro Quilting, and Dense Background Designs.

The 40wt thread is slightly thicker, making it perfect for more defined quilting, or when sewing bags and garments.
Suggested Uses: Machine Piecing, Hand Piecing, Bobbin and Machine Lace, Machine Applique, Machine Embroidery, Edge-toEdge, Pantographs, Custom Longarm Quilting, Cross Stitch.

The 28wt thread is one of the heaviest thread weights Aurifil offers, perfect for well defined quilting and other uses!
*Tip: Use a thinner thread in your bobbin (50wt or 40wt) when machine quilting.

It’s perfect for hand applique, embroidery, quilting, and cross-stitch. It’s also a great weight for machine embroidery and more!
