Workshop Description and What You’ll Learn:
Learn how to make the Double Friendship Knots mini quilt (18” x 18”). This block incorporates foundation paper piecing on a machine and hand needle-turn applique. In the first class, students will foundation paper piece their “scrappy knots” on a sewing machine. In the second class, we’ll slow it down and kick back with some handwork— learning how to prepare the applique and how to apply the layered motif by alternating basting and needle-turn applique techniques.  Along the way, I’ll share all of my tips and tricks for both foundation paper piecing and needle-turn applique. I’ll demonstrate how I like to use my walking foot to quilt my mini. When complete, students can make their mini quilt into a wall hanging or pillow. It makes an excellent gift for a friend, partner, or special couple!

This is a LIVE online classroom.

I’ll demonstrate techniques and tips as well as sharing quilts in real time. This live format allows us to see and talk with one another so you can ask questions, share what you’re working on, and interact with other students. While you are working on your project, I’ll be “walking around the Zoom” (the equivalent to the room) giving you one-on-one help and sharing just like we would if we were in the same room. Learn new machine and hand piecing skills including foundation paper piecing, needle-turn applique and more! Meet new quilting friends from around the country (and possibly world). Class registration is limited to allow for plenty of individual attention. See below for what students have said about this fun workshop!

“I loved this workshop! It was relaxed, very informative, well presented, & most of all FUN! I really began to relax & not worry about everything being perfect.” –Susan

“What a fun & educational class! It was a great intro into foundation paper piecing & applique. Sheri is an excellent instructor! The livestream format worked very well and it was a fun way to be in a virtual workshop. I recommend Sheri and her sessions! 10 Stars!!” –Diane

“Full disclosure… I was terrified to do paper piecing! However Sheri made us all feel very comfortable knowing we all have varied sewing skill level. Sheri was very clear and easy to comprehend her instructions. She made sure to always ask if there were questions before moving on. You will enjoy the kinship with others in the class…and cheer each other on. All around great experience to fill time during our Covid19 quarantine. If you have the opportunity to attend her workshop in person, or online do yourself a favor and sign up!” – Vada

“This was an extremely well- organised, methodical, thoughtful, practical and creative course. Sheri provided excellent step by step instructions good for the novice or the experienced quilter. The online forum allowed for questions to be asked in the chat, which were answered by Sheri in real time. It felt as though I was right there with her in class. Well paced, just enough work to allow me to keep up with each class and to finish the final project. I’m making mine into a pillow cover. Thanks Sheri. Learned a lot, and had a lot of fun.” –Dawn

“I’m taking the online version that Sheri has set up during this time of uncertainty. Her real enthusiasm for the subject and the way that she teaches is inspiring. I have not done paper piecing or applique to date but her clear guidance is superb. If I lived locally I would certainly come to one or any of her classes. The supporting pattern is superb and very easy to follow. I really can’t fault this – I live in England so it was brilliant to join a class with such an exciting teacher. Thank you Sheri” –Rowena

“Thank you Sheri for a very well organized workshop. Sheri’s special tips for paper piecing, basting and dong the needle turn appliqué were great.” –Evelyn

“I took this class in person at the February meeting of QuiltCon 2020 in Austin and I highly recommend it. Sheri is an excellent teacher and the pattern is fun and easy even for a relative beginner.” –Barbara
